Setting Windows Permissions and Registry Keys Needed for ICXE
Description
The following support note Outlines the permissions required by Users of the Inventory Controller XE software Application.
In general Inventory Controller XE Domain Users must have READ / WRITE / MODIFY permissions to a set of predefined REGISTRY KEYS and FOLDERS/FILES within the software environment.
Failure to provide adequate security permissions can cause certain features and functions of ICXE to operate incorrectly or not at all.
Detail Steps
Step 1: Log into the Server console as an Administrator
Step 2: Open Windows Explorer by right clicking on the start button and clicking explore
Step 3: Locate the folder in which Inventory Controller XE has been installed. Eg. C:\Program Files\Datapel Systems
Step 4: Right click on the folder and click Properties
Step 5: Click the Security tab at the top of the Properties box
Step 6: Check that the user you are about to add is not already in the list.
If the user is in the list skip to step 15.
Step 7: Click the Add… button
Step 8: Type the username of the user to be added and press the Check Names button
Step 9: If the name underlines then you have spelt the name correctly. Skip to step 14.
Step 10: If the name did not underline and the following window popped up then select Remove from selection and press OK
Step 11: If you mistyped the username, repeat from step 8.
If you are not sure of the particular username then press the Advanced Button
Step 12: Press Find Now and locate the user from the list below
Step 13: Double click the user you wish to add
Step 14: Now that the username is underlined, press the OK button
Step 15: Click on the user in the list and then tick the Full Control check box under Allow in the list of permissions
Step 16: Now repeat steps 7 to 15 for all users that will be using ICXE
Step 17: Consider adding a New ICXE Users Security Group that way new users can be added to the group without the need to apply the user to each system attribute.
To finalise the permissions press the OK button on the Properties box
Step 18: Now locate the following folder and repeat steps 4 to 17.
• ICXE Workspace Eg. C:\Program files\Datapel Systems\Inventory Controller\Database
Windows Registry Keys Procedure
The Following steps modify the permissions of registry keys.
These steps should be followed with extreme care and by an authorised system administrator.
Step 19: Open a command prompt. Click Start then Run and type cmd into the box. Press OK
Step 20: Type Regedit at the command prompt. The registry editor will open
Step 21: Locate the Folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , Then SOFTWARE, Then Datapel Systems
Step 22: Right click on the Folder and click Permissions - Repeat Steps 6 to 17 for this folder
Step 23: Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Subscriptions and repeat Steps 20 to 22
Step 24: Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe and repeat Steps 20 to 22
Step 25: If Using Server 2008 it is recommended you DISABLE UAC - this can be done from the Security Policies section of Server Management.
Step 26: It is recommended you restart the server/workstation to allow all changes to take effect.
